Book Learning
I have observed that most women I meet who like to write, who need to write, are also avid readers. The SCN Book Review Board is committed to finding the best new books by women authors and featuring them on the Story Circle Book Reviews site. They can be memoir/biography, mainstream fiction, instructional, or books about travel, health, relationships, spirituality, gardening and more. We can certainly learn from and expand our knowledge base from reading good books. However, I believe there is more to be gained. Good authors are writing instructors whether they intend to be or not. One author might beautifully illustrate a sense of place; another might excel in using dialogue. What we read can influence our writing.
Susan began 2006 with one of the best decisions she ever made--she
joined SCN. She is a member of the online reading circle and online
writing circle #8, facilitates online writing circle #3, and is an
Assistant Editor for SCN Book Reviews. Susan lives in Magnolia, Texas
with her husband of 40 years, Harold and their Cairn terrier (aka
terror) MacDuff. They have two grown daughters. She is writing her
memoir, as well as writing for her SCN groups, Journal and Anthology. Besides writing, she also loves reading, cooking and
needlework. With retirement not too far down the road, she and Harold
plan to travel, so long as Harold can take MacDuff along, and Susan has
her laptop.
